Misako Hatami, 101, of Hilo died July 3 at Hospice of Hilo Pohai Malama Care Center. Born in Papaikou, she was a retired kitchen manager for the former Sumida Restaurant and member of Honpa Hongwanji Hilo Betsuin, Buddhist Women’s Association, Tenrikyo Mishima Kyokai and Pomaikai Senior Citizens. Visitation 10-11 a.m. Sunday (July 23) at Dodo Mortuary Chapel. Memorial service at 11 a.m. Casual attire; no flowers. Survived by sons, James (Pat Tsumako) Hatami and Wendell (Janice) Hatami of Hilo; daughters, Jean Hatami-Kogasaka and Marian (Ernest) Nagamine of Hilo; sisters-in-law, Watae Shindo of Japan and Emiko Fukuhara of Los Angeles; six grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews. Andy Lay, 86, of Hilo died July 9. Born in Campbell County, Tenn., he was a U.S. Army combat engineer discharged honorably after 20 years of active federal service. Arrangements by Ballard Family Mortuary.

Joshua Taylor Watanabe, 18, of Hilo died June 28 at home. He was born in Honolulu.
